Hey Suga!

There are some parts of us that don't get introduced right away.

A talent or creative itch you kept ignoring.
A song you always wanted to write or sing.
An idea that relentlessly keeps coming back.
A love for something you never quite gave yourself permission to pursue.

Sometimes life gets so full that those parts get pushed to the side.

Sometimes people get so comfortable telling us who they think we are that we start believing them.

I’ve had to sort through some of that myself. I didn't always recognize what was healthy for me, and I didn't always choose the right people to keep close. But somewhere along the way, by God's grace, I started remembering my voice, my creativity, my curiosity, my love of beauty, my ideas, my identity and my desire to create and bring people together.

I’m Kashmire Kay, creator of Shine Suga Shine. I created this space because I know there is more to us than what we’ve experienced, what we’ve been told, or what we’ve come to believe about ourselves and this is where I get to share it. Shine Suga Shine is where I share the things I love and the things I’ve learned along the way like writing, food, hospitality, music, faith, creativity, encouragement, and hopefully this will have you looking at yourself with fresh eyes, too.

I began to understand that healing isn't just about what we're recovering from.

It's also about discovering what is still alive within us.

That discovery became Shine Suga Shine.

My hope is simple:

That somewhere along your journey through Shine Suga Shine, you find a rope of hope to hold onto.

That you remember you are not what happened to you.

That you are not too far gone.

That there is still so much life, beauty, purpose, and possibility ahead of you.

And most of all, that you remember this:

You are a cherished creation of God.

There is treasure in you, so let's uncover it together.
